Crail Airfield 1918 - 1962

The Airfield Room has photographs and memorabilia from the First World War right up to 1960 when the airfield was closed. The WWI airfield, 1918-19, was manned by the Royal Flying Corp/Royal Air Force.

The exhibitions include:-

  • HMS Jackdaw, Naval Air Station Crail, 1939-1947. Its main purpose was a Torpedo Attack Training School.
  • HMS Bruce, a boys training establishment, 1947-1949.
  • Pictures and a very important book of the Commonwealth War Graves at Crail.
  • ¬†Joint Services Linguistics School 1956-1960. Russian was taught here to National Servicemen up to Translator and Interpreter standards.

For each there are many albums to look through with hundreds of photographs from all eras.
